Overview

GP+ is a fully funded training programme which offers you the opportunity to develop your knowledge within a specialist interest whilst working as a General Practitioner to maintain your GP skills.

Sessions

GP+ programme 2023/24 requires a minimum commitment of  6 sessions per week for a 12 month period. To get the most out of the GP+ programme it is recommended that this undertaken on a full time basis (9 sessions/ 37.5h per week), which will be split between Salaried GP work and education & training in a special interest area.

Study allowance

A study budget will be agreed at the outset of the programme to meet the agreed outcomes and support the development of your specialist area of interest.

Job plan

For a full time GP, approximately 5 sessions per week will be spent in a Practice. Your role will be job planned with the Practice and the Primary & Community Care Academy at the beginning of the placement to ensure that all elements of the programme are met.

The remaining 4 sessions will be allocated to the specialist side of your role and any associated training/courses. These sessions will be protected to enable you to undertake clinical observational placements, taught education sessions and clinical sessions.

Mentorship

A GP Mentor will be identified to support you whilst you undertake the programme.

Healthy Prestatyn Iach,
Prestatyn

Healthy Prestatyn/Healthy Rhuddlan Iach (HPI) is a recognised training practice at the heart of the local community delivering high quality, comprehensive and professional healthcare services. They aim to educate and enhance the health, wellbeing, and confidence in the population the practice serves.

The multi-disciplinary approach of HPI enables a modern approach to primary care that ensures staff feel valued, have the tools and support to excel in their role and nurtures the personal drive and ambition to reach their potential.

Hwb Iechyd Cybi,
Holyhead

Hwb Iechyd Cybi (HIC) has a multidisciplinary team approach to patient care. The practice works closely across three sites with local health board services, the community team, voluntary and charitable organisations. 

HIC utilises digital triage and video consultation to ensure care is directed to where is is needed, with a team focus on quality medicine. 

 

Future plans include becoming a teaching practice.

Llanfairfechan Group Practices,
Llanfairfechan & Conwy

​The Llanfairfechan Group Practice has 3 Practices: Plas Menai Health Centre (Llanfairechaen), Meddygfa Gyffin (Conwy) & Llys Meddyg Surgery (Conwy).

 

Plas Menai Health Centre provides its Primary Care service to 7,500 patients residing in Penmaenmawr, Llanfairfechan, Abergwyngregyn and their neighbouring villages. The Practice is within a purpose built building, which caters for the clinical and non-clinical elements of the service.

The merged practices of Conwy; Llys Meddyg and Gyffin Surgeries provide Primary Care service to 7,100 patients residing in the town of Conwy and its neighbouring villages.

Both surgeries are located within the town with Llys Meddyg being located directly in the heart of Conwy on Castle Street.

Tywyn Health Centre, 
Tywyn

Tywyn Health Centre was purpose built in 2016 as part of an extensive redevelopment of the community hospital site. The Practice list size is 5,500 patients and increases in the summer months with holiday makers. Tywyn is a rural Practice set by the sea in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The university town Aberystwyth is approximately 45 minutes drive away.

Tywyn Health centre is pioneering a new model for rural health care working with a range of agencies to create a single point of access for patients.

You will receive a very warm welcome from the Practice team which comprises a mixture of Clinicians within the Multi-Disciplinary Team, Medicine Management, Pharmacy, Non-Clinical and Community staff.

West End Medical Centre, 
Colwyn Bay

Westend Medical Centre is situated in Colwyn Bay, with a list size of 18,400 patients. Newly merged from two Practices within the same building, West End Medical Centre is focused on delivering a social model of care and has a multi-Disciplinary team including GPs, Nurses, Physiotherapists and Pharmacists. 

The Colwyn Bay area has a variety of independent coffee shops and bars and is close to the town of Llandudno with a good range of retail stores and a theatre and conference centre. Its coastal location also means that within minutes you can be in the countryside and heading to the Snowdonia National Park. There are also good road and rail links to Chester, Manchester and Liverpool. This family friendly town is close to a number of great state and independent schools, and the University Health Board has links with the two local Universities in Bangor and Wrexham (Glyndwr University).
